With an entire morning and early afternoon full of prayer, reflection and speeches by dignitaries, the Baisakhi 2011 celebrations came to a close with its traditional procession of colorful floats through downtown Los Angeles that highlighted Sikh culture and its various leaders.
He further said that he was aware of the problems faced by the students coming from India and assured that all issues would be taken care of. Dr. Pritpal Singh told Asian News International that such events could become a part of resolving Sikh identity issues. He further informed that still many countries including the developed ones need to educate about Sikhism and its code of conducts.
Baba ji was committed to the selfless service for the well being (chardi kalan) of the Sikh Panth throughout his entire life. He was an institution in himself who relentlessly worked for the welfare of the mankind with missionary zeal and the valuable services rendered by him for the construction and renovation of Gurdwaras and Sikh institutions across the country would be ever remembered by one and all.
"It was not just a presentation but a journey into our past to make us realize the idea behind Vaisakhi and contemplate and re-plan the way we celebrate Vaisakhi these days," said Taranjit Singh, a coordinator from Sikhi Sidak who attended the talk. "It's the need of the hour to take a look into the history and see why are we not able to make an impact as we did in the past so that Vaisakhi in it's real sense does not lose its sheen."

What is claimed to be the last portrait painted during his lifetime by the official court artist of the great Emperor of Punjab, Maharajah Ranjit Singh, goes under the hammer later this month. The superb miniature portrait was painted on ivory set in white gold brooch, also inscribed on gold - ‘Runjeet Singh'. It shows the aging Maharajah looking serious in his full regalia.
Dr. Jagir Singh wrote a booklet "Mere Dada Ji" in anecdote format for young children. The educative and inspirational booklet was first published in 1985. Another edition was brought out in 1989. Still another edition of the book - under the title "Dada Pota" - was brought out in the year 2005. It is now being presented in digital form for easy access.
