Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa ! Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh !!

Lab1 (19K) We are really fortunate in northern BC to have the opportunity to do research in the various labs at UNBC. Since we have such a small university, there are more opportunities to volunteer in a research lab, or even become a paid research assistant. The NSERC USRA award is granted every March to capable and enthusiastic students to undertake summer research projects. The deadline for this award is Feb 1. Furthermore, in smaller university undergraduate students are given more challenging projects with more responsibility. Therefore, you really get to be involved in life-changing research by doing interesting projects.

Lab2 (20K)I completed two summer research projects in a cancer research lab here at UNBC, which was funded by NSERC USRA. The experience was very useful. I got to apply the theory and the scientific method I learned in the classroom to real life problems encountered in my projects. I learned a variety of biochemistry techniques. I also learned how to use critical thinking skills when assessing evidence and scientific literature. The coolest things of course was knowing that my research could be used in helping find treatments for cancer.

I also attended various research conferences where I could present my research findings to other scientists. This was a good learning experience and helped me improve my public speaking skills.
