Hundreds of people – including local representatives from many religious faiths – drew Greater Cincinnati’s Sikh community into a warm embrace Sunday, 21 days after a gunman killed six at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wis.
During a special community ceremony at Windsor Ciociaro Club, Ontario Finance Minister and Deputy Premiere Hon. Dwight Duncan presented this award to Mr. Kandola.

Visuals matter. And in a racially charged political climate, a turbaned and bearded man will be presented to the country by Republicans as a fellow American. This is a remarkable step forward.
Who are the Sikhs? What are their beliefs? What is the significance of the Sikh turban? In the language of clothing, what is the turban saying? Some answers come from Britain, where Sikhs are more established than in the United States.
Sikhs of Punjabi origin make a special contribution to the class because of their deep connection with the roots and the spirit of our path. We have had students of different faiths come also to be a part of the experience. Both our shared purpose and our diversity allow us all to learn from, support, and inspire one another.
