For Sikhs who belong to a temple just off the historic Bedford downtown, participating in the city's Fourth of July parade is a chance to show people that beneath their turbans and head scarves beat the hearts of Americans.
The Sikhs of Dayton joined in the celebration with enthusiasm and vigor. The flag hoisting ceremony (above) was performed by Victor Zimmer, the Color Guard of ROTC from the Wright State University Engineering Department, followed by the National Anthem and the Oath of Allegiance.
This is Fourth of July in the Tri-City area, and although it’s not easy to get along or agree all the time, it’s the one day when people come together in the spirit of being American.
