Baba Deep Singh was a beloved child of Guru Gobind Singh, who's commitment was so strong, his word always came true. When the Hari Mandir Sahib was taken over by invaders he promised to fight until his head bowed at the threshold. In the battle field he fought fearlessly and sent many men to their Maker. Then he faught the general of the other army. Baba Deep's head was cut off in this fight........... then a miracle happened......
The Guru's two younger sons are lost and alone with their grandmother. The children who were 6 and 8 years old, were arrested and brought to Governor Wazir Khan. Their grandmother, Mata Gujri, was left alone in a freezing cold tower while the children were interrogated by the government. They were given a choice: Change their religion.... or die. Will these young ones follow the example of Guru Teg Bahadur and sacrifice their lives... or will they give up?
India had come to very dark times. The rulers were taxing, converting and killing the people. They wanted to end the Hindu religion.
But I think if love is real then nothing seems difficult even if it means losing an eye. A sacrifice will never feel like a sacrifice at all; it would just be an expression of that love from one person to another.
The Guru, knowing he will never see his sons again, and knowing one has suffered an empowered misery, allows himself to look one last time upon his child and consents to let him leave...
Baba Ajit Singh went before Guru Sahib and said, "Pita ji (dear father), permit me to go and fight on the battleground and grace me with the opportunity to make my life fruitful and worthy in service of the panth."
FOR HE GAVE UP HIS LIFE BUT NOT HIS FAITH AND HOW HE QUIETLY LAID IN THE 'RAVI' RIVER AND CHOSE NOT TO CHANGE THE PRESET, HEAVENLY, CLOCK OF FATE........
Bhai Sahib stressed that just doing Naam Simran and Paath and focusing on our own personal life alone is not good enough. Neither is focusing on seva of the Panth whilst ignoring and not putting in practice Rehat (discipline), Amrit-Vela and Naam Simran.
A few days ago, I was washing the car on the afternoon of December 24. The sun was shining, but my hands were cold, my ears were frozen and my cheeks were numb... Winter made the car cold to the touch, and I knew later that night the ground would freeze. I realized that 295 years ago, the Sahibzade were imprisoned on that same night. They had to choose between Life and Death.
In the concept of Miri Piri, there is a subtle co-existence of the two bases of authority-spiritual and temporal. The Sikhs were acknowledged spiritually in India but not politically and this lack of recognition eventually resulted in the attack on the Akal Takhat.
A comparative Study by Rawel Singh
A king with his army visited Guru Gobind Singh ji. The king obviously thought his army was superior to the Guru's so the Guru decided to teach him a kind lesson. Guru ji asked his Sikhs to use themselves as targets to test a new gun he had received. Two Sikhs wanted so much to give their lives for the Guru they fought over who would be the target. The proud king was greatly humbled.
