The arrest and treatment in custody of an Indian diplomat in New York City has caused an uproar in India, and a week after the incident, there are signs of an all-out diplomatic row with the U.S.

Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Ji was forcefully arrested by undercover intoxicated Punjab Police officers from Gurdwara Amb Sahib in Mohalli, Punjab is in custody of Punjab Police, in Ropar Jail.

The Sikh Coalition,...Wednesday commended Fresno Police for quickly arresting a suspect in the vicious beating of Mr. Piara Singh, an 81-year-old Sikh grandfather, this past Sunday outside a Gurdwara (Sikh House of Worship) in Fresno, California.

The Sikh Coalition has been in touch with the Milwaukee District Attorney since the incident. This afternoon the DA's office was able to to share that a suspect is in custody and will be charged with a homicide crime. Thus far, the DA's office has no evidence of any bias motivation and is treating the circumstances of the crime as an armed robbery.

“We are very concerned that the Punjab Police has not taken the incident of the willful removal of a Sikh’s turban seriously. It’s an affront to justice that Punjab Police are prepared to ignore a judicial order. ...to issue a statement explaining why the concerned police officer did not attend court yesterday and failed to file a report on the incident,” said Mejindarpal Kaur, Legal Director of United Sikhs.
