There were lot of people who came forward to sign the petitions to be submitted to Irish foreign office and Indian Ambassador in Dublin.
Inspired by his message of community service, Sikhs of Dublin gurdwara conducted a neighbourhood cleaning drive in sandymount area. On Tuesday, 12 November 2013, around 30 members went around the neighbourhood of Dublin gurdwara and swept the streets which are littered with tree leaves.
A huge statue glorifying a British Empire general infamous as 'The Hammer of the Sikhs' for his barbarity in commanding occupation forces in colonial India is set for a return to Dublin if Fine Gael Junior Minister Brian Hayes gets his way.
Organized by the Study of Religions Department, School of Asian Studies, UCC, and made possible by the generosity of the Sikh community in Ireland through the Cork University Foundation.
The find was made by British born writer Bobby Singh Bansal who was visiting Ireland to conduct research for his next project when he was shown the maps that had lay undetected in the castle attic for over 100 years.
He laughs looking back as he recalls how it was often an ice-breaker with many of the Derry children who were admitted to hospital for surgery. “Children have no inhibitions and straight away they’d ask ‘what’s that on your head?” he explains.
It's been third consecutive year, that Sikhs have made their presence felt at the festival with their nerve-racking display of martial art 'Gatka' which has been one of star attraction in the festival over the years.
