A message from the SikhNet Stories Team

October 2025
At SikhNet Stories, we believe every child deserves to meet the Gurus not as distant figures but as living guides whose light still speaks to us today.
This year marks the 350th anniversary of the supreme sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, Hind Ki Chadar, the Shield of India, who gave his life to protect the freedom of all faiths and the dignity of humanity. To honor his legacy, we bring you Guru Ladho Re, the story of Bhai Makhan Shah Lubana and his discovery of the True Guru.
Why We Chose This Story
Before Guru Harkrishan Sahib Ji met with divine light, he guided sangat saying, “Baba Bakale.” Confusion followed, and many claimed to be Guru. Yet one man’s faith and courage led the world to the light of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.
We chose this story because it teaches children that truth is not found through noise or popularity but through patience, humility, and inner knowing. It shows that one seeker’s devotion can change history, and that the Guru’s light is revealed not through force but through grace.
What Children Will Learn
Through this story, children experience what it means to trust the Guru’s word, to recognize truth beyond appearances, and to remember that divine wisdom often hides in quietness.
They will see:
- Guru Harkrishan Sahib Ji’s compassion and his final blessing
- Bhai Makhan Shah Lubana’s faith during the storm
- Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s humility and radiance as the true Guru
Reflections for Parents and Families
This story is an opportunity to slow down together and talk about the deeper meanings behind the words “Guru Ladho Re,” meaning I have found the Guru.
After watching, you might ask:
- What does it mean to find the Guru in our lives today?
- How do we recognize the truth when so many voices claim to know it?
- What lessons can we take from Bhai Makhan Shah’s patience and faith?
Families can also bring this reflection into daily life by reading one of his Saloks together, or practicing small acts of courage and kindness in his honor.
To help children connect more deeply, we have also created printable coloring sheets inspired by Guru Ladho Re. Parents and educators can use them as tools for storytelling, reflection, and discussion. These sheets encourage children to express what they learned through art and imagination, bringing Sikh history to life on paper and in their hearts.
Why This History Matters
In a world where truth is often clouded by noise and fear, stories like Guru Ladho Re remind us that courage and clarity come from the Guru’s light. Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji stood for the right of every human being to worship freely. His sacrifice is not only Sikh history, it is a message for all of humanity.
When our children grow up with these stories, they carry within them the strength to choose truth over comfort, and compassion over fear.
