Kanwar Singh, artist of artofpunjab, will be unveiling a large scale exhibition of his Sikh history paintings at the historic Fairmont Royal York hotel in Toronto from July 13-15th. The exhibition will be the most extensive Art of Punjab presentation in North America to date and will cover the full breadth of his creative career. It will feature many of his paintings which have become modern classics of Sikh art as well as rarely seen conceptual work. This 3-day gallery event is presented in partnership with the North American Sikh Medical and Dental Association (NASMDA) and will be a central attraction of their 26th annual convention. Kanwar Singh will be in attendance alongside many distinguished guests of honour including Gurbir Singh Grewal, Attorney General of the state of New Jersey and Ravinder Bhalla, Mayor of New Jersey. The artist will be doing a walkthrough of the gallery with attending guests.
Established in 1992, NASMDA is one of the largest Sikh professional organizations in North America with over 1000 members. Though it has long catered to North American Sikhs in the medical & dental fields, the organization is now becoming a hub connecting Sikhs from all walks of professional life. The 3-day conference will offer forums on Sikh professionals from various fields ranging from medicine, law, politics, finance, media and the fine arts. They aim to create an ever expanding network of Sikh professionals coming together on one platform so that ideas can flourish into opportunities. Established professionals within the Sikh community will give talks and share their experiences.
The Sikh community has been an integral part of the fabric of the North American landscape for more than 100 years, when the first Sikhs came to Canada in the early 1900s. Notwithstanding numerous challenges, we as a community have made tremendous progress by engaging in all facets of society. Although the Sikh community has thrived in almost every notable profession across North America, as a community no other central organization strives to assemble these diverse professions under one umbrella so that Sikhs can network across multiple platforms. The Sikh Professionals Convention's objective is to amplify the ability of Sikh professionals to benefit their community by providing an annual platform for networking, education, mentoring and funding.
