Sikh prayers were recited at an interfaith service celebrating the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech at the Shiloh Baptist Church on August 28, 2013 in the morning.
Hundreds of Sikhs in the Washington area gathered at Guru Gobind Singh Foundation to commemorate the one year anniversary of the Oak Creek shooting at the Gurdwara which took six lives. Many elected officials, religious leaders and civic representatives joined in the prayerful ceremony.
While recognizing the success of Sikh immigrants, the White House hopes it can further open dialogue between the Obama administration and Sikhs for years to come.
Dr. Rajwant Singh said, "This issue is of vital importance to the entire nation and Sikh community is a partner in furthering dialogue and awareness about mental health. This issue affects all Americans and we are ready to assist President Obama in this agenda."
Welcoming the passage of the law in Rajya Sabha (Upper House) and Lok Sabha (Lower House) of the parliament, Rajwant Singh, chairman of the Washington based Sikh Council on Religion and Education, said, “This is an historic day for Sikhs in the Independent India after a long and hard struggle.
The InterFaith Conference of Metropolitan Washington (IFC) brought together region's only multi-religious service for Dr. King's birthday on Sunday, January 8, 2012.
