Sikh Research Institute (SikhRI) spent the early part of June on a “4G Tour” of the United Kingdom, exploring the topics of Guru, Gender, Genocide and Gurmata with diverse audiences in cities around Scotland and England.
Teens and adults with an interest in gaining a deeper understanding of the history of Vaisakhi and its role as a foundation of Sikhi. This Webinar is designed to be an active and exciting exploration of the religious and political roots of the contemporary celebration we take part in today.
The British made many inroads with their expansion into the Indian subcontinent. There were many travelers, writers and army personnel who left records of their time depicting the mannerisms, religion and customs of the Sikhs. Whilst one of the earliest accounts of the Sikhs is that of an account dated 1718.
He will be going through rare documents, manuscripts and historical images showing how the earliest English translations of Sikh/Punjabi texts came about. The presentation revolves around one Dr John Leyden from Scotland who went to India and translated Punjabi/Sikh texts into English.
