Prime Minister Manmohan Singh may no longer be king for the Congress in Punjab but to the party's opponents, he is above criticism. At least in public. The ruling Shiromani Akali Dal mentions Singh in reverential tones and, in a strategy that suits it, treats him as someone above party politics.

The people, in turn, have to choose between two fighting families, that of the Badals and the Singhs, the rulers of erstwhile Patiala princely state from where Amarinder Singh comes and only those parties where ideology has ceased to be and dynastic power has become a norm.

Sikhs will gather again to celebrate March 14th as the 2nd Annual Sikh Environment Day.This day marks the Gurgaddi Diwas of Guru Har Rai Ji who is remembered for his deep sensitivity to kudrat, or nature.

Interestingly, every guy with a dastaar on his head is dubbed “Sardar Ji”… not much thought goes into that - it’s just the way it is. I guess it does come with the territory…after all, the dastaar our men (and some women) don is reflective of royalty, isn’t it? However, I think we need to be a little more careful just throwing that word around.

And every now and then, on the more difficult days when I feel like I am drowning in my worries... A shabad will find me, reach out its hand...and pull me out I often wonder...why did Guru Sahib give us his baani?
