Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, May Darwin be with you—what is the best seasonal greeting? What if they are all fine? That’s the sentiment behind a new book that treats the winter holiday season for what it has become for many people, an intercultural, inter-religious celebration.
While demanding release of Sikh political prisoners languishing in Indian jails even after serving the terms of their sentences, the Maritime Sikh Society (Halifax, Canada) has extended support of Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa and the ‘Bandi Singhs Rihai Morcha’.
In celebration of its 125-year history, the Sikh American community will have its own float in the 2015 Rose Parade in Pasadena, Calif. on New Year’s Day, marking the first time the Indian American community will be represented in the annual parade of flowers, music and sports.
At the dinner with my friends, we finished the conversation with a friend quoting a zen haiku: when a disciple says to his master, “I want happiness”, the master replies, “Take away the ego ‘I’, the desire ‘want’, and you are left with happiness.”
In the spirit of serving the society for those in need, the Sikh community is donating blood at Canadian Blood Services on different days at the end of November and early December. November 29th (Saturday) is booked as one of the group donation dates.
