[VIDEO] What if Captain America wore a turban and roamed the streets fighting intolerance? "My goal is not just to educate people about Sikhs but more importantly accepting our diversity, judging each other by our actions..."
This version of the Winter Soldier wears glasses, a beard and a turban. His real name (sh!) is Vishavjit “Vish” Singh, an American-born New Yorker, and most of us just missed his recent visit to the University of Kansas in Lawrence, where he gave the mental digestive tracts of the students there a “sudden blast of a ethnic effervescence never tasted before.”
But I decided to sell the autographed copy to this young boy. That a young, white kid could connect with this manifestation of Captain America was all the affirmation I needed for my efforts.
I have been receiving similar letters for months since the pictures went public last September. The overwhelming warm reception has been life affirming for me in turn inspiring What I learned as Captain America in a Turban.
Steven Heller from The Atlantic interviews Vishavijit Singh, the first Sikh Captain America.
