Preliminary leads emerging from the investigation into Monday's terror strike in the Dinanagar township of Gurdaspur district in Punjab “do not indicate any direct involvement of home-grown Sikh militants”.

The last rites, called ‘bhog’ ceremony, of Bhai Jaspal Singh (18), who was killed by police firing during Gurdaspur incident on March 29, was observed at his native village Jorh Sidhwan, near Gurdaspur on April 07, 2012. Jaspal Singh was shot at while he was participating in peaceful protest opposing hanging of Sikh political prisoner Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana.

The Chhota Ghallughara Martyrs­ Memorial was opened Monday at Kahnuwan Chhamb in Gurdaspur district. It’s been built in the memory of over 11,000 Sikhs killed by Mughal troops at Kahnuwan Chhamb in 1746.
