Raghbir Singh Bains is an eminent community activist, dedicated environmentalist, reputed philanthropist, encyclopaedist, known museologist, an eminent drug therapist, and lifetime crusader against the global menace of drugs and other social evils.
The judges in awarding the award said "they were impressed with the range of achievements by Randhawa after having thoroughly reviewed her work and being impressed by her commitment to the journalistic domain".
Prime Minister David Cameron said it was a "tremendous honour" to be given the Special Recognition Award at The Sikh Awards last night.
This year, the gala ceremony was presented by former Mayoral advisor Mr Kulveer Ranger and model/actress Ms Anu Singh. Over 750 guests attended including Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, BBC’s Head of religious programming Mr Tommy Nagra, Ms Charlotte Leslie MP, Mr Paul Uppal MP and Dr Kate Wharton from the Archbishop of Canterbury’s office.
Ms. Gurmeet K. Sodhi, an icon in the international and entertainment communities, has proved yet again to be one of the most influential woman in the South Asian Media community when she recently won the "World Sikh Awards" in London for "Sikhs in Entertainment" category. She is a television host; producer and one of the youngest South Asian female to launch her own LIVE talk show.
Sarna, now India’s envoy to Israel, is a author of dual novels “The Exile” (2008 ) and “We Weren’t Lovers Like That” (2003). Both the books have been translated into Hindi, while the latter has been translated into Arabic too.
“The Sikh Awards have recognised some amazing people with amazing talents and experiences,” says Navdeep. “We are delighted that Sikhs and non-Sikh alike have embraced the positivity of this awards ceremony and once again the winners’ achievements, in all walks of life, speak for themselves.”
Mr. Singh, who was named as one of “50 Outstanding Asian Americans” in 2010 by the Asian American Business Development Center, Inc. and a “Rising Star” by Campaigns and Elections Magazine, was nominated through the Sikh Award’s website. He was then selected out of more than 100 nominations from all over the world by a panel of five respected citizens from the Sikh.
