"We didn't want to build a place of worship for our own community," Mr Singh said. "We wanted to leave a lasting impact on the Glasgow skyline and for people from all over the world."
The 60-year-old, who had brought the Queen’s baton from India to Scotland last year, is the first Sikh to be elected to Glasgow as the city’s councillor. .....He now sits on Glasgow’s CWG committee as its member.
Glasgow is home to the largest Sikh population in Scotland, more than half of all Scottish Gurdwaras are in our city and the new central Gurdwara is the country's biggest.
He said: "My father would have been so proud to see the opening of the new Gurdwara and the raising of the Nishan Sahib in the Gurdwara forecourt, a right which he campaigned for in the early years.
