Christians, Muslims, and Jews from across Greater ­Boston plan to be at a service at Trinity Church Thursday evening, August 23, to show support for the Sikh community in the aftermath of the shooting rampage at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin.
The Dutch parliament voted on Tuesday to ban ritual slaughter of animals, a move strongly opposed by the country’s Muslim and Jewish minorities, but left a loophole that might let religious butchering continue. The bill by the small Animal Rights Party, the first such group in Europe to win seats in a national parliament, passed the lower house of parliament by 116 votes to 30.
“Given its acceptance of Sikhs and Muslims with beards and its policy of allowing beards to be grown after initial entry on service, I see little wiggle-room for the Army,” he said.
