Under the guidance of Dr. P.S. Pasricha, a scholarship scheme, has been initiated for Sikh students from lower income group. In the first phase, 10 engineering seats have been reserved for the deserving students at Guru Nanak Dev Engg. College, Bidar with fully paid scholarship.
Dr. Rajwant Singh, SHDF's Outreach Director, said, ".... This is the largest single grant money given by the diaspora community to needy but bright students who have the keen desire to rise and lift their families out of poverty."
SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar said all Sikh girls in Jammu and Kashmir, willing to study after their senior secondary in any type of course, will be provided with free education, free hostel accommodation and free food by the SGPC.
In the spirit of helping Sikh youth become successful academically and spiritually, Khoj is announcing three scholarships, worth $1000 each, which each focus on the all-around excellence, humanitarian, or academic excellence of the students.
To provide education to the children related to the Punjabi language, and spiritual, moral, and cultural traditions of the Sikh religion. The educational curriculum will enable the students to read, write and speak Punjabi. In addition, this program will teach them the Sikh religion, its ethics, history and way of life.
The SGPC has decided to institute scholarships in collaboration with University of Cambridge (UK) for needy and meritorious Sikh students for research studies leading to M.Phil or Ph.D degrees.
The Sikh Human Development Foundation (SHDF) has awarded 314 scholarships to needy students in Punjab and other Northern Indian states for the academic year 2008-2009.
