...in celebration of the International Day of the Girl, representatives of SAFAR (The Sikh Feminist Research Institute) visited Khalsa School Surrey for a eighty minute dialogue with high school girls on the seemingly obvious question, “What is a Kaur?”

A group of international leaders, known as The Elders, on Wednesday joined forces with the US secretary of state and UN agencies in the battle against the practice of child marriage.

Late last year, the United Nations declared Oct. 11 the International Day of the Girl. Celebrated for the first time this month, the occasion aims to highlight the challenges girls face around the world to gain access to education and other basic rights, and empower them to advocate on their own behalf.

Ten. Eleven. Twelve. Those are the ages that for many girls, the world becomes a much more dangerous place.
