Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa, Wahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh.
At the end of March and the beginning of April, SikhNet sent out a request to our audience to complete an in-depth survey. Today, I wanted to take some time to share data with you about what our survey said about you, our donors.
The purpose of the survey was for us to better understand who comes to the SikhNet website, and what their needs are, so we can serve you better in the years ahead.
We were truly amazed by the response we received. The survey had 96 questions, which took 20-30 minutes to complete on average. Yet over 1,800 people from around the world participated – from children under 12 to seniors over 75. We never imagined that we would receive such a response.
Of those 1800 people, over 460 of you were donors. We deeply appreciate the time that you took to answer the survey. Truly - without you, SikhNet would not exist.
Our donors fund a global initiative.
People come to SikhNet from all over the world. Yet, there are many countries whose people are not in a position to donate much towards SikhNet. When you give, whatever you give, you are supporting a global educational platform that reaches Sikhs in every country. Our largest percentage of donors come from:
United States: 44% of our donors, though only 22% of our overall users.
Canada: 16% of our donors, 14% of our overall users.
The United Kingdom: 10% of our donors, 13% of our overall users
India: 5% of our donors, with 33% of our users.
In this sense, you, as SikhNet donors, form your own unique sangat. Your resources create a free and equitable portal for anyone from any country to connect with the Guru, and improve their lives.
Our donors Are Engaged in Family and Professional Life
74% of you are married. 43% of you have children under 18. 67% of you work full time. All of these are higher averages than our overall survey sample.
The SikhNet donors, in general, are very engaged in building the future. Your support of SikhNet is another way that you take care of your family and your community.

Issues of community and supporting the youth are also important to you.
These are some of the key things that you told us about yourself through the SikhNet survey.

In the fall, we plan to release a more detailed report relating to these survey results, including a summary of 2300 write-in comments that were sent. As SikhNet gears up for a major site re-design in 2014 and 2015, this information will guide our steps.
Thank you for supporting SikhNet to do this type of research with our audience. Both your time and your financial gifts help us to serve the world-wide Sikh community in ever better ways.
