BRAMPTON —Two students from Brampton are winners of a photography contest that called for submissions of compelling images that tell stories about diversity and culture.
Harman Gosal and Alexia Addo-Nyarko, Grade 8 students from the Isaac Brock Public School in Brampton were awarded the first and third place prizes respectively (in the intermediate category) of Passages Canada’s Imagine Culture Photo Contest.
The national contest received more than 560 submissions from youth between the ages of 5 to 29.
“This is the work of a new generation of Canadian photographers defining questions of culture and identity,” said Anthony Wilson-Smith, president and CEO of Historica Canada. “The results are impressive not only in creative terms, but also in expanding our perception of ourselves.”
Passages Canada is a national storytelling program of Historica Canada that invites newcomers and established Canadians to share their personal experiences of identity, heritage, and immigration with groups of all ages.
This was the first year such a contest was hosted and work was juried by a panel of judges from Passages Canada and The Canadian Encyclopedia.
