Kirat (14K)May 17, 2013: Kirat was playing tabla before he came to MPA last year, but he never got serious about his practice until he was at MPA. This year Kirat earned the opportunity to play tabla along with the Cherdi Kala Jetha inside the Golden Temple and they will be playing a final time this Sunday. I interviewed Kirat today about his experience.

When did you first find out you were going to play in GT?

“I’ll tel you the story. I was sitting with Gurprakash, who usually plays tabla with them, on the prakarma outside GT . We were talking about how one of the members, Sada Sat Simran, wouldn’t be here for part of the year and I was wondering how that was going to work. I then completely jokingly said ‘Well I should just play tabla and you can sing.’ Gurprakash then replied ‘That’s actually exactly what were going to do’ I was very excited.”

Were you nervous?

“I never actually got nervous and I was surprised because I was waiting for that nervous feeling to come but it just never did.”

How did it feel the first time you played in the Golden Temple?

“The feeling was that nothing else mattered and I felt completely in the moment.”

How does it feel to be playing again this Sunday?

“This is a great way to end the year and will help me keep up my practice during the summer.
