Charity Event

I'd like to share a brief info on our charitable trust Guru Raaj Sewa Ashram trust Chandigarh who's chairman Bhai Gurnimit Singh Raaj Rangila and president Bhai Bhupinder Singh Rangila started this trust in 2012. Bhai Gurnimit Singh a 23 year old young kirtania (Sikh hymn singer) who sings kirtan and translates the meaning in English, who belongs to the rangila family known for the services they have been providing to the poor and the sikh congregation by singing kirtan and conducting charity events for the past 40 years. Inspired by his elders this sewak has organised separately an event where 21 poor destitute girls who are not financially strong to pay for their marriage expenses and who live in poor villages of India work day in and day out as maids or labour, these girls will be helped by Guru Raaj Sewa Ashram where the organisation will pay for all the expenses. Each girl will be given 1 lakh INR (1300£) worth of necessary goods (like double bed, mattresses, gas cylinder, fans, Indian traditional dresses, dressing table, etc) plus 6 grams of gold earings. It may seem less but to these girls who have never seen these luxuries means the world to them. These services are done with the support of the sangat.

Reason for this sewa (unconditional social service):
As you may know in the Indian marriage ceremony dowry plays a very poisonous role behind the curtains. Though it's not out in the open but it does exist and the poor families are victimised by it. Those who have been blessed with wealth don't face dowry issues but out of love they give out massive amount of gifts to their daughter but it is the poor families who face all the problems. When affording a daily meal is an issue how can they offord to pay marriage expenses. Some parents commit suicide because they think that the funds their daughter would receive would pay for all the expenses. Some girls commit suicide cause they think that they are a burden. Some girls who got married that are in there in-laws' house are being tortured because of dowry. Some were burnt alive just because the in-laws didnt get what they wanted from the girl's parents.

So to spread awareness on this issue we have organised this event and we seek your support.
