The ghastly terror attack at Christchurch Mosque in New Zealand shook the entire world to the core on Friday. Heavily armed terrorist stormed the mosque killing around 49 innocent people and injuring over 20. Around 9 people out of 17 who have gone missing after violence that lasted for 15-20 minutes are reported to be Indians.

New Zealand, which is one of the safest countries in the world confronted the massacre with utmost strength with the world standing by their side. Holding a press conference, New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern described the moment as “one of New Zealand’s darkest days”.

The Sikh community is loved worldwide for their kindness and helping nature. And New Zealand was no exception to their benevolence. They have come forward to do their bit at the time of extreme grief and agony in the country.

Some Sikhs in Auckland are working under an NGO called “Guru Nanak’s Free Kitchen” in order to help the victims of the terror attacks.

Apart from arranging free langars for the victims, they have also offered help like washing bodies, transporting the bodies or family members of the deceased to the cemetery, digging graves among others. They have also urged people from Muslim and other communities to volunteer for the cause in a Facebook post.

Sikhs, no matter from which part of the world, have always taken active participation in helping victims of natural calamity like that of Kerala floods or feeding free food to Syrian refugees during Ramzan. Setting an example always, they encourage and inspire people to help fellow humans in need.
