Vaaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaaheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

Dear Michigan Sangat.

We are proud to announce that the Sikh Research Institute will be running workshops the weekend of Feb 27th – March 1st.

There are many classes and camps for children but very rarely do we see in- depth classes for adults. Finally after a lot of planning and thinking this is coming to a reality with the help of Sikh Research Institute.

As we read Guru Granth Sahib, we note there are words that keep coming over and over again. Such as Shabad, Hukam, Naam, Guru’s will, Chautha Pad/Dasam duar, duality, 5 khands, gurmukh/manmukh etc etc. What do they really mean and how do we apply this knowledge to our daily lives.

In this interactive seminar (7 hours) we will focus on Shabad, Hukam and Naam and use Asa di Var as an example of their use. In future conferences we will discuss other common but important recurring words. Please note there is a maximum of 70 people to have a meaningful dialogue and discussion. please register early and don’t be disappointed as likely we will be full very soon.

Call Sarabjit Singh Neelam (586) 924.4007 or Mandeep Singh (314) 537.5669 for more information.

Please note the cost per person is only to cover the expenses of the conference and no individual is making any profit from this. We want everyone to benefit from the teachings of Guru Granth Sahib.

Friday Evening: Exploring Your Potential

The modern industrial world heavily controls our mind and body, continually shaping our lifestyle. We are often turned into a machine that continues to do what it is programmed for. Happiness and fulfillment elude us despite wealth and countless avenues to satiate our pleasure senses. In this presentation, we explore reasons that bind us, inhibitions that hold us back and address how to reorient our life compass to be truly free to realize our potential.

  • This event is open to youth (ages 16 – 24).
  • Registration for the event is required. There is no fee to attend this event.

The program will be held at:
Gurdwara Sahib – Hidden Falls

  • Registration for the event is required and has a cost of $50/person.
  • Childcare will be provided ($10/child due at drop off)

Walsh College (Room 112)

Description

The bani strongly confronts the religious hypocrisy, hegemonic structures and stereotypes prevailing in the human consciousness and the society at large. As Prof. Puran Singh puts it,

“In Asa-ki-Var, Guru Nanak is seen busy destroying the strongholds of Brahmanical superstition, with a persistent determination. And lo! He has cleared the ruins away, and built on their sites a towered and thousand-pillared temple of song for all peoples and nations of the earth to gather in and worship. Guru Nanak offers to the simple folk the cup of nectar to taste. He puts a live song in the throats of those who sing it to the wild lilts of prairie and jungle, gathered in great congregations.”

Asa ki Var describes the process by which a man learns to cut through the duality of thought and action to become one with the Divine and transform from an ordinary individual into an angel.
