Published on Dec 21, 2015 A London charity is bringing festive cheer to the capital's rough sleepers. The Sikh Welfare and Awareness Team (SWAT) is hoping to give hundreds of homeless people a Christmas to remember with a free seasonal street party on the Strand. Founder of SWAT Randeep Singh: "Basically we're here three times a week, we've been here for the last three years, and today it's a very special Christmas event that we're hosting for the homeless people. Behind you, as you can see, we've got fresh hot Christmas vegetarian dinner, we've got a DJ which is just setting up at the moment, we've got party hats, we've got lots of people with glowing hats. Basically these guys may not get a Christmas party, so we're gonna put on a Christmas party for them, so that's what it is. Good food, hot food, crisps, chocolates, biscuits, mixed pies, presents and a party." He said beaming a smile. When Randeep was asked the paradox that it is a Sikh charity throwing a Christmas party he responded, "The founder of the Sikh faith, Guru Nanak Dev ji, he was all-inclusive. He always said that we need to serve humanity. This is exactly what we're doing, we're practicing what we're taught." | ||
