Thousands of Northern Californians are expected downtown Saturday in a celebration of ecumenical peace.

The World Interfaith Peace March, including free breakfast and lunch, begins at 10 a.m. at Southside Park, T Street between Sixth and Eighth streets, said Darshan Singh Mundy of the Interfaith Bureau of Sacramento, event co-sponsors.

The event is being hosted by the Sikh Gurdwaras or temples of the Sacramento Valley, which are celebrating the 300th anniversary of the Sikh Holy Scripture – 1,430 pages of poetry in 31 different meters that calls for interfaith understanding and harmony.

A peace march is to start at 11 a.m. at T and Sixth streets, then circle the Capitol stopping at the north steps, where community leaders and elected officials will address the peace marchers. Free snacks and water will be served, and lunch after the march will be served in Southside Park from noon to 3:30 p.m., Mundy said. For more information, contact Mohinder S. Sandhu, (916) 607-0538.
