The prevailing situation in the state as a consequence of the prolonged economic blockade called by Sadar hills district-hood demand committee and resulting counter economic blockade at the National highways has also negatively impacted the day-to-day management at the Center for Mental Hygiene located at Changgei Uchekon (Imphal).
Under the center a special school for mentally challenged as well as specially abled individuals, a hostel and shelter workshop for these special individuals has been catering both to intellectual and physical well-being to the needy since its inauguration in 1989 by former chief minister, Rk. Joychandra Singh.
Today, 7 bags of rice, two bags of sugar, several kilos of pulses and street lamp sets were donated to the secretary of the institute as a token of encouragement and appreciation of love and dedication to the services rendered for physically challenged by Rk. Imo Singh, social activist son of (late) Rk. Joychandra Singh, coinciding with the present situation as well.
The donation is also part of his family’s gesture annually rendered to the institute and assured to do so much grandeur in the coming years, Imo said during a simple function held in this connection at the institute’s campus at Changgei Uchekon today.
At present the institute is catering the service to more than 200 students who are admitted in the institute.
Under the center there are also other facilities provided for the welfare and development of the society spreading to other places in the state.

Not with standing the odds that he might have faced in the late 70,s, he took the daunting step of leaving an honorable post from the state government which at that point of time was unthinkable and come up with the idea of forming an organization which we later come to know as CENTER FOR MENTAL HYGIENE, intending to serve the weaker section of the society and ultimatly the general public of Manipur. It won't be an exaggeration to mention that he was a pioneer in the field of social work relating to drug-de-addiction and mentally challenged of the state, that came up as the apostle of the icon henceforth.read more... |
