Hoshiarpur, February 28: Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Santosh Chowdhary laid the foundation stone of the Tertiary Cancer Care Centre (TCCC) here today.

The centre will train doctors and para-medicals in cancer management.

“The TCCC will be built in place of the old TB hospital in Fatehgarh area of the city. The hospital has been lying abandoned for years. The cancer care centre will be built over 10.75 acres for Rs 45 crore. The Union ministry has allocated the amount and the state government has given its consent,” Chowdhary said.

The Hoshiarpur MP claimed that the cancer care centre would benefit patients of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu Kashmir. “All types of facilities for cancer treatment, research, training, early cancer detection, prevention and pain management will be available in the centre and only critical cases will be referred to Regional Cancer Institute,” she said.

“The TCCC in Hoshiarpur is part of the National Cancer Control Programme, under which 27 Regional Cancer Institutes and 45 TCCCs will be set up during the 12th Five-Year Plan for Rs 3,200 crore,” Chowdhary added.

Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Gulam Nabi Azad had announced the TCCC in Hoshiarpur on October 5 last year during his visit to Arogya Mela in Garhdiwala.
