THE Sikh community in Southampton says farewell to one its founding elders.
Hundreds are expected to attend the funeral of Satpal Singh Roath, which marks the end of an era for the prominent family who settled in Southampton as post war immigrants.
Mr Singh Roath, 79, was the last and youngest of six brothers and a sister who came to the city from India in the 1950s. He died after an illness.
The well known Roath family has played a key part in shaping some of the foundations of the Sikh community in Southampton.
Mr Singh Roath, who was known affectionately as Sam, formerly worked for Wellworthy and British Rail.
