Vancouver taxi driver sets a new standard in honesty

16 Nov, 2013:
Vancouver cab driver Sarjinder Singh set an exemplary example of honesty as he returned a huge amount of money to its owners. The cash which amounted to around 10,000 Canadian dollars were forgotten on the back seat of the car.

A customer got into Singh’s cab and noticed that the previous passenger had forgotten an envelope stuffed with $10,000 in cash in the back seat. Singh immediately returned to the apartment where he had dropped his previous customer. He found him and returned the envelope to the customer much to his relief.

Singh told the Canadian Press that the man was overjoyed to be reunited with his cash and offered a $1,000 reward, which Singh refused.

“He had to fly the next day. And after I gave him his money he wanted to give me $1,000 cash but I said, ‘No, it’s my job, you know.’ And he said, ‘Thank you because I need my money and I have to fly back tomorrow.’ I didn’t talk that much to him because I had a customer in the cab and it’s busy. I had to go back, you know,” he said.

Singh also hoped that this gesture of his would bring fresh outlook in the way the cab drivers were seen. He said, “Mostly cab drivers are working hard. Mostly they are nice. They are not like strangers. Whatever they find, they try to return it back.”
