AMRITSAR: Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (SGPC) would lay the foundation stone of memorial to victims of 1984 anti-Sikh riots on June 12th in Gurdwaa Rakabganj Sahib complex situated in front of Parliament House, Delhi.
While talking to TOI on Wednesday, president of DSGMC, Manjit Singh GK said that the foundation stone would be laid by the Jathdar's of five Takht's in presence of leaders of various political parties sans Congress. He said,"the memorial will not only be dedicated to the victims of 1984 anti-Sikh riots but also to those non Sikhs who had saved the lives of Sikhs during riots".
He said DSGMC had constituted a 11-member committee of Sikh intellectuals, architects, historians and subject experts who had suggested to construct the memorial in Gurdwara complex situated on Gurdwara Rakabganj Road. GK informed that DSGMC had so far received 3 entries in response to their invitation to submit designs for the proposed memorial.
The committee had also offered an award of Rs 11 lakh for the person or architect whose entry would be finalized. While ruling out that the proposed design of memorial would be of a Gurdwara or a museum, he said "It could be a rock, a minerate or just a monument which would convey the message of universal brother hood and peaceful coexistence".
General secretary, DSGMC, Manjinder Singh Sirsa said DSGMC would continue to extend moral, social and financial support to the victims of anti Sikh riots besides providing education facility to their wards. He said DSGMC had invited Chief Minister of Punjab, Parkash Singh Badal , BJP's national president Rajnath Singh, party's senior leaders Sushma Sawaraj, Shiromani Gurdwarar Parbandhak Committee president Avtar Singh Makkar etc. to join the foundation stone lying ceremony. "Within one month after lying foundation stone we will decide over the final structure of the memorial" said Manjit Singh GK.
