When Siri Singh Sahib Bhai Sahib Harbhajan Singh Khalsa Yogiji came to teach in the West, he shared two beautiful jewels that had originated in India. One was the very ancient science of awareness called Kundalini Yoga. The other was the priceless teachings of the Sikh Gurus.
His earliest students embraced both traditions, and helped to establish this Dharma in centers around the world.
Tarn Taran Singh and Tarn Taran Kaur Khalsa are two such people. In 1972, the Siri Singh Sahib asked this newly wedded couple to leave their home in Tucscon, Arizona and relocate to Amsterdam. They were 23 years old and 22 years old respectively. By the time they moved, Tarn Taran Kaur was six months pregnant.
The Sikhs' Guru broke thousands of years of prejudice against women with their teachings, and Tarn Taran Kaur carried that spirit with her to Amsterdam. She started teaching Kundalini Yoga for women as soon as she arrived. Keeping with the spirit of Guru Nanak, she taught about the dignity of women. She inspired them about how to have conscious relationships. She shared how the journey which a woman takes to motherhood could transform her entire being and bless the Soul in her womb.
On October 22, 1972 Tarn Taran Kaur gave birth to her daughter, Madhur Nain Kaur, naturally at the Guru Ram Das Ashram in Amsterdam, chanting WAHE GURU! She was so grateful for the grit and the strength which she uncovered within her own self, using the yoga, meditation and chanting the Naam.
In 1975 the couple moved to Germany where they established the first Guru Ram Das Ashram in Hamburg. They opened a vegetarian restaurant, YOGI TEA company, a yoga school, and the non-profit 3HO Germany. They offered Sadhana (Japji, Kundalini Yoga, Meditation and Gurdwara) daily, as well as classes every evening. On every Sunday, the Ashram hosted a large Gurdwara. The community grew fast within a very short time.
After sharing the teachings for women for two years in Hamburg, Tarn Taran Kaur established a comprehensive and transformational program to train Yoga Instructors to offer pregnancy yoga. She started sharing these precious teachings around the globe and today there are over 3000 Yoga Instructors for Conscious Pregnancy. These teachings awaken the Souls of women to live in their grace and strength, to bless the child in their wombs, and to give birth with dignity and courage, surrendering and merging into the Sound Current of the Shabd Guru.
The Conscious Pregnancy program shares a wide spectrum of teachings. It incorporated Kundalini Yoga, as taught by Yogi Bhajan, as well as wisdom from the Sound Current of the Shabad Guru. These teachings support women during their childbearing year. Through the program, each participant experiences personal transformation and awakens her identity as a radiant woman and mother. The training also places emphasis on serving women and building community.

Here is a testimonial from one of the women who have taken this course:
"I used to live the 'unhappy.' I knew I should have been happy. I was blessed with so much! However, I could not move out of an insecurity fog. I knew I was blessed to be a woman and eventually a mother… that is what Guru Nanak taught us: Bhand Jameeai. However so many situations and people in my life told me I was incapable, unworthy and limited. My power was stuck!
The Conscious Pregnancy course was a special catalyst for me to connect deep within my Soul and learn about living a conscious life as a woman. The yoga and meditations were new to me, however we were always reminded to repeat the Naam during the practice and this helped me so much. We studied and we had fun… the teachers and the students… it was an extraordinary time to be with such joyous women. I learned profound and practical information to live as a strong and alert woman. It is a blessing to awaken and experience that I AM the Adi Shakti. She is NOT outside of me. She is within me. There is no separation. I am recovering my grace and strength of living as a radiant and knowledgeable Kaur, a Princess. Life's challenges are to be faced!" - Preet Kaur

This is one of my most precious inspirations:
