Dec 01, 2015: Fasting Sikh activist Surat Singh Khalsa was on Tuesday discharged from Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where he had been admitted on October 31.
Khalsa’s son Ravinderpal Singh Gogi said he was at home when he got a call from the hospital, informing him that his father had been discharged. Gogi alleged that doctors at the DMCH had been forcibly feeding liquid diet to Khalsa.
When contacted, deputy commissioner Rajat Agarwal said doctors had informed the district administration that Khalsa’s health was better now and he could be sent back home. Agarwal added that the administration had made arrangements to take him to his village, Hasanpur, near Mullapur Dakha.
Khalsa has been on a hunger strike since January 16, demanding the release of Sikh prisoners lodged in jails even after the completion of their sentences.
