THE Dayanand Medical College and Hospital on Saturday organised a 'spiritual musical concert' for stress relief and relaxation that saw the participation of Australian artiste Dya Singh.
While introducing the artiste, Dr Sanjeev Uppal said Dya Singh is acknowledged as the world's most significant musician of the mystical music tradition.
Originally from Malaysia, Dya Singh has made a name for himself in the west for his special brand of spiritual world music. He learnt the art of spiritual singing from his father, a renowned spiritual singer, at the age of five.
Principal Dr Daljit Singh, present on the occasion, said the medical profession has a high-stress quotient as doctors have long and gruelling working hour and hence it was important to find ways to de-stress.
On the other hand, Dya Singh said spiritual music is more a medium of education and worship than merely a source of entertainment.
True spiritual music touches everyone's spirit by uplifting the peace of mind, promoting harmonious living and most importantly, bringing internal happiness and self-contentment, he added.
On stage, Dya Singh was accompanied by some top musicians including Paramjot Singh (longest non-stop tabla player in the Guinness Book of Records), Sripal Singh, Hari Krishan on synthesiser, Rakesh Kumar on flute and Ravi Ji on percussion.
