Mughol Emperor descendant atones for atrocities of her ancestors. Sultana Begum great-grand-daughter-in-law of the last Mughol emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar on Tuesday atoned for sins committed by her ancestors. Begum who visited golden temple in Amritsar sought forgiveness for their atrocities committed against Sikhs and Hindus by the Mughol rulers. 

 

She said she was moved by the stories and the pictures religious Gurus being tortured by Mughols.

Begum who lives in a penury in Kolkatta runs a tea stall and receives a paltry pension of rs. 400. However to undertake a pilgrimage to Amritsar she received a financial assistance of rs. 50,000 from the central government. She will also be visiting a gurdwara in New Delhi on Thursday.
