Hyderabad: Amidst the recitations of holy hymns and shabad keertans, a few hundred old volumes of Guru Granth Sahebji and other religious booklets which have become old that cannot be used for reading purpose or used for prayers any longer were consigned to flames at Angitha Saheb, Gurudwara Saheb Barambala, Sikh Chawniat, Kishanbagh on Wednesday last.
This was the seventh unique ''Agan Bhent Seva Samagam''(consigning to flames with due reverence) of virdh saroops (old and frayed editions of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and other booklets) to be organised in South India at Hyderabad.
The entire exercise was undertaken with the supervision and guidance of Baba Narinder Singhji, Chief Priest, Sri Guru Granth Sahebji, Choti Jawadi, Ludhiana,Punjab.
Several old volumes of Guru Granth Sahebji and other booklets from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu including those religious books which were vandalised few days ago by Seemandhra protestors in Vizianagaram were brought to Hyderabad and were relegated to fire strictly as per the Sikh rituals.
This sewa is performed by sangat in the presence of five beloved Sikhs (Panj Pyaras). During this sewa, devotees rendered shabad kirtan (singing of Gurbani keertans). There is no doubt that all these are read and kept with utmost respect and care. However after daily and continuous reading of Gurbani in Gurudwara and homes, these get frayed and old.
