NDTV reported on the 4 earthquakes, or more correctly "after-shocks", that hit in the already disaster stricken Nepal today,
"As we have been reporting these earthquakes in Nepal today, the IMD has confirmed there were at least four that took place between 12:35 in the afternoon and 1:44. The biggest one was 7.3 on the Richter scale, than 5.4, 6.2 and 4.8, all four affecting Nepal."
Experts continued to report that, "These are all after-shocks of the big tremor that hit Kathmandu on April 25th. These are continuing aftershocks since the earth is still settling down and the energy from the fault is still being released, one after the other, in these series of earthquakes which are coming."
Experts said, "These earthquakes are occurring in the same region and that is cause for concern because Kathmandu in Nepal are still recovering from that massive earthquake which took over 8,000 lives on April 25th. The recovery and relief effort which is happening in Nepal right now would certainly take a beating with this series of after-shocks within one hour, several after-shocks have been felt in the same region."
Apparently people in Delhi felt the aftershocks and people in Uttar Pradesh also not only felt tremors but also reported damage. There are two confirmed deaths in the state. Parts of Bihar have reported damage, two deaths as well, and the tremors were even felt all the way to Chennai.
Khalsa Aid reported on their facebook page:
"Khalsa Aid is now feeding double the figure after the 2nd earthquake.
LANGAR needs have increased to 5000 people !! That's 10000 meals a day, lunch and dinner."
Sikh Relief reported:
"Another major earthquake measuring 7.4 on the richter scale hit Nepal today, at 12.35pm local time. At present there are no reports of widescale damage or casualties, but people have poured out onto the streets in fear. Our teams who are working on the ground in Nepal, have all reported back safe and sound. One of our teams was out providing aid to a particularly remote area, say they are treating the locals for minor injuries and trauma, but there has been no further structural damage.
One of our volunteers, Taranpreet Singh reports, 'Myself and 4 others, were inspecting the damage on the 2nd floor balcony of a house which had been hit by the 25 April earthquake, when today's quake struck. Infront of our very eyes, we saw a house fall down on the opposite side. Thanks to God, we were all safe. People are very scared, they are screaming, crying and running out to open space. We too jumped down from the balcony to a smaller house and made our way to safety in the open space. As I am telling you this, we have felt at least 6 further shocks to the earth.' "
United Sikhs reported:
" 'The UNITEDSIKHS Nepal Relief team ‘escaped’ today’s earthquake, which demolished the house where we had cooked our dinner last night,' said Komal Singh. 'As soon as we left Phugel, there were landslides,' she added. Our team had been running a medical camp where they treated 900 patients over two days at Phugel village in #Gorkha, the epicenter of the first quake. 'We were so lucky today', said Amanjot Singh our team member from Patiala. 'There is no electricity and it appears like the whole of Nepal is "on the road" as people are afraid to go indoors,' The only vehicles allowed on the road are ambulances and the army,' said Dr Amarjeet Singh. Our team, comprising local and Kashmiri doctors is now continuing its medical camps in the new areas affected by today’s quake."
God bless these wonderful organizations, all the aid workers, volunteers and especially those who are suffering and have lost loved ones.
