SEVEN years after migrating to Australia, Indian-born Ajayvant Singh Sidhu never dreamed his name would be etched in Victoria's history books.
The 25-year-old is the first Volunteer Fire Fighter with Country Fire Authority Victoria to wear a turban. He volunteers at the Robinvale Fire Brigade as a firefighter and also volunteers as Treasurer to looks after finances of the brigade.
Mr Sidhu works as an accountant as his paid job at the local Health Services. But he always wanted to do something for the community members and for Australia who accepted him with open arms even being a migrant hence he joined the fire brigade to protect lives and property.
"If you go back in Sikh history, founders of Sikh people have been standing up for the rights of communities all the time," he said.
He is a well respected member of the community and believes community members from diverse ethnic backgrounds have the trust and connection with him.
