Dear Gurumustuk,
As the entire cyber community awaits the pearls of joy, tears and consciousness, that the 3rd Sikhnet Youth Online Film Festival brings, I wanted to share the latest in the journey of ‘One Light’. A seed planted right here last year at the 2nd Sikhnet Youth Online Film Festival.
This month, thousands of Americans will learn about Guru Nanak’s message of one-ness, peace and humility through this little documentary. The power of conscious media and your vision needs to be applauded.
I am sure that you will be thrilled to know that ‘One Light’ is being screened at the Sun Valley Spiritual Film Festival in Idaho on September 19 to 21st, 2008. The Director of this festival, Dr. Mary Gervase, is also the Education Director of Special Winter Olympics 2009. She has also been the Assistant Superintendent of the School District. She has personally invited Angad to speak on International Peace Day along with screenings of One Light. What an incredible blessing! Dr. Gervase has arranged for Angad to visit the schools of Sun Valley to share the message of peace, tolerance and youth activism with their students.
“A little rough on cinematography, Angad's message transcends the craft!” says the selection committee. I doubt that the 13 year old could even spell the word cinematography or pronounce it. J Angad is the youngest filmmaker at the Festival and the youngest ever to speak on International Peace Day celebration.
Last year on Peace Day we had a small première with the participants of the film at our home in Atlanta, GA. This Peace Day the message of ‘One Light’ will be heard by so many more. What a wonderful way to celebrate the One Year anniversary!!!
Gurumustuk, I truly wanted to share with you the joy that I feel and somehow I know that you too will experience the same joy. After all Sikhnet Youth Film festival is your baby.
Peace on Earth Film Festival in Chicago will screen One Light on August 30th 2008, 10 a.m. Again, One Light is the youngest film selected of all independent films focusing on peace and harmony.
San Diego International Children’s Film Festival will screen One Light on Saturday, August 23 (tomorrow) at San Diego Central Library, Downtown: 1:45 p.m. - 5 p.m. Admission is free to all.
Hope, Sikhs from Chicago and San Diego (especially the Youth) will take the sewa and show up at the screenings to engage in post screening dialogue and education with the audience, since Angad Singh is not able to attend these in person.
Gurumustuk, do you know that someone in the audience at a film festival, asked Angad Singh “ What a progressive message – How come we did not hear about Guru Nanak before?” and he humbly answered “That’s why I am here – to tell you about him”.
For all that you do and I am sure will continue to do, I thank you. Thank you for sowing the seed, inspiring young minds and then most importantly providing a platform for their films.
A special message for the young from Angad’s Mom……
Don’t underestimate the power of home camera, a little creativity and your consciousness.
Bertrand Russell a great philosopher has said “Sikhs haven’t brought out in the broad daylight the splendid doctrines of this religion, which has come into existence for the benefit of the entire mankind. This is their greatest sin and the Sikhs cannot be freed of it.”
Let’s free ourselves of that ‘sin’ via the conscious media efforts. The entire Cyber Sangat is waiting to see your labor of love at the 3rd Online Sikhnet Film Festival.
Who knows you might travel the world with your film?
Love,
Angad’s Mom
