Dear Friends,
Dr. Prabhjot Singh, a professor and physician, was recently the victim of a hate crime against "a perceived Muslim". A gang of misguided ignorant youth in Harlem, NYC beat him up, shouting "Get Osama!" and breaking his jaw.
The good people at ENSAAF (meaning "justice") are not surprised at this horrible act. They work on police killings and disappearances of Sikhs following the Indian Government led massacre of Sikhs in New Delhi in 1984. Their leadership has brought this hidden issue to the forefront now of mainstream American news.
It is time to bring ENSAAF itself into the limelight, for their courage, their persistence and their invaluable help of Sikhs around the world.
To achieve that mission, students from the prestigious Dodge School of Film and Media Arts at Chapman University have started a documentary film profiling this exemplary group. The project has received a green light due to the students winning one of our Sikh Scholarship films.
However, the students require a substantial infusion of funds to help them along.
For this, they have registered a kickstarter campaign, whose link is here.
Please reach into your pockets and give assistance to these young people who wish only to raise the profile of a heroic group that will not let the memories die of all those who were murdered, butchered and disappeared all across the Punjabi, not just in 1984, but for decades following.
There are precious few amongst us Sikhs, who have taken the time and trouble, and have the skills, to commemorate for all time, the brutality leveled against us from so many directions. Please help these non-Sikh students, who love Sikhi, to foster and sustain our precious history and our quest for justice, by assisting them to make this film about ENSAAF.
We hope you will agree, and make a financial commitment to those who wish to honor a great institution, striving for the noble cause of Justice. This film will be premiered at the Sikh Arts & Film festival, Nov 22-24, 2013. For more information, please go to sikhlens.com.
To contribute please go to Kickstarter page.
Gratefully,
Bicky Singh
