Camp Raj Yog ~ Reflections

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa ! Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh !

Camp Raj Yog occurs every summer,
located on the Sunshine coast.

My sister and I had the pleasure of attending
the women's camp in 2009, which was a blast.

A few of the camp leaders also came to Prince George in 2009
and we had the pleasure of listening to their keertan.

Here are some pictures.

About Camp Raj Yog

THE FOUNDATION - 3HO in Vancouver - Raj Yog Nivas/ Yoga West
grk2.jpg
smallLogoHighlight.jpg3HO has been operating as a non-profit society in Vancouver, delivering the Teachings of Yogi Bhajan since 1975.  Raj Yog Nivas  also known as Yoga West, is the Kundalini Yoga center in Vancouver, where hundreds of people have been trained to become Kundalini Yoga teachers. The yoga Center today is located in Kitsilano and offers ongoing classes, workshops, Amrit Vela sadhana, Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training Level I and II, as well as a Gurdwara Sanctuary holding regular Kirtan programs. Guru Raj Kaur was the founder of 3HO in Vancouver in the early 1970s. Other Yoga West pioneers over the last 20 years have been Hari Singh, Dharm Kaur, and Dyal Singh. The Current directors of 3HO Vancouver are Guru Raj Kaur Khalsa, Baltej Singh Dhillon and Sardani Guru Amrit Kaur Khalsa.  Guru Raj and Baltej both serve on the Camp Raj Yog Council and have a history of serving Sikh Youth Camps as well as Khalsa Ladies and Men's camps.  They are very passionate about the expansion of this community on the Sunshine Coast.

THE INSPIRATION - Khalsa Ladies and Men's Camp
picture 2.pngFor 17 years, Guru Raj Kaur has directed KHALSA LADIES CAMP on the Sunshinepicture 1.png Coast. For the past 3 years, founders Hari Singh and Hari Bhajan Singh and others have nourished the birth of KHALSA MEN'S CAMP .  In the past, facilities were rented on the Coast to host these wonderful summer gatherings.  It is these camps which have laid the foundation and spirit of this project and pushed us towards finally purchasing our own land.

THE SEED - Dr. Singh Foundation
IMGP0381.jpg
In April 2007 a 10 acre parcel of land was purchased on The Sunshine Coast by 3HO Vancouver, with the gracious seed money of the Dr. Singh foundation.  The community's dream of owning land to serve as a spiritual retreat center would not have been able to come to life without the generous donation of Dr. Singh via Stephen Sukhwant Sander.  Dr. Singh was a visionary man who believed in importance of multiculturalism and the multifaith movement.  He was devoted to keeping the jewel of the Sikh path alive in the western world.  Mr. Sander, as a custodian of Dr. Singh's endowment, felt that the 3HO mission was in alignment with Dr. Singh's passion and decided that this project was the perfect place to plant a seed, a seed for which we are and will be forever grateful. It is now our duty to be stewards of this seed, to nourish and guide it to grow into the future, into a full flowering tree that will serve generation after generation.

THE PRESENT AND FUTURE...
Since the purchase of the land, we have brought together an official "Council" to be responsible for the guidance and implementation of this great vision. You can see pictures and bios of the Current Camp Raj Yog council here.

In 2007 the land managed to host two summer camps, Khalsa Men's Camp and Khalsa Ladies Camp, with greatlogofinal.jpg success (see camp photo albums).  These events were made possible by the hard work, donations and seva of many many people for which we are so grateful.   The council meets on a regular basis nurturing the vision, steadily planning and ensuring implementation of the beautiful destiny of Camp Raj Yog. We are currently preparing for a Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training retreat in May 2008 and look forward to our second time hosting the Men's and Women's camps this summer in August, and Youth camps in the future.

Last year we brought running, drinkable water to the site and completed the construction of beautiful showers (special thanks to all the men from mens camp 2007 who completed this labour of love!). This year we are planning the construction of a green kitchen   and are also planning to start the construction of several composting toilets.
