If you thought Punjabi singing sensation Gurdas Maan was over with his best days, here is an update. Come April, and Maan, 54, will be performing at the Royal Albert Hall in London. He is set for a power-packed performance at the coveted venue on April 23 as part of his upcoming UK tour.
"The Royal Albert Hall is considered the mecca for artists, and I feel humbled and privileged to be invited to perform there. I really appreciate that I am one of the few artists who have got the privilege to perform at such an extraordinary place," says Maan.
This performance will make him the first Asian to perform at the venue in nearly 20 years, joining the ranks of veterans such as Lata Mangeshkar, Jagjit and Chitra Singh, and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
Ask him about his playlist for the event, and he says, "I never decide on what to perform. I just believe in connecting with my audience, and I know, if you do that, nothing else matters."
And thatis not all. Maan received an honorary doctorate in world music from the University of Wolverhampton, UK, in September last year. Others who received the honor included the likes of Sir Paul McCartney, Bill Cosby and Bob Dylan. "It was a touching moment. Having said that, I will continue entertaining my audience like always," says the singer, who was in Delhi to promote his latest album, Jogiya.
