Testimonials:

Even before it started, I had a feeling this camp was going to be different from all the camps I have ever attended. Camp Miri Piri 2006 was the best camp I have ever attended. It was held at St. John's Island, off mainland Singapore. The location was perfect as the camp grounds were on a hilltop surrounded with lush greenery.

The camp was conducted by Shanti Kaur Khalsa and Chardi Kalaa Jatha. They ran a superb camp that covered every aspect - mind, body and soul. The Shastar Vidya sessions were excellent and we had a chance to learn some self-defence moves amongst other things. The Physical Training sessions in the mornings energized and prepared our bodies for the Simran and Kirtan sessions later in the day. Shanti Kaur and Chardi Kalaa Jatha were so approachable that one felt very comfortable asking them any Sikhi or spirituality-related question. There were no taboo topics that they did not want to touch on. There was so much positive energy at the Kirtan sessions every night. There was no need to coax participants to sit up straight with eyes closed to chant Gurbani. The Kirtan was beautiful and sung with heart and soul.

I did not get any sleep on the first night, not because I was not tired. I was too eager to wake up the next morning to meditate under one of the huge, old trees! On the second and third nights, I could not sleep more than two hours. The cool sea breeze and the trees inspired me to wake up at two or three a.m everyday and start my day with a Sadhana.

The participants were from all age groups. Nevertheless, they mingled well and new friendships were formed. When the time came for the Jathas to do their daily duties, it was apparent that participants did not have to be persuaded. They did Seva happily and did not complain having to wash the toilets. The success of a camp depends a lot on the participants. It was obvious that every participant attended the camp because they really wanted to be there and not because they were forced to be there. I did not come across anyone who was there solely to check out the opposite sex, like it is in some camps.

I saw many sad faces on the last day of the camp. It was as if nobody wanted it to end. Every participant I spoke to at the end of the camp said this was the best camp they had ever attended. For me, Camp Miri Piri was energizing, cleansing and healing. I am looking forward to the next one. See you there!

This camp is about teaching, not preaching. It was an illuminating experience that allowed us not only to better understand Sikhi, but experience it. I am deeply grateful for such an experience and am looking forward for the next one.

The workshops at Camp Miri Piri gave us some valuable tools to better recognize aspects of ourselves, and to live a more fruitful life as a Sikh woman. I am glad I had this chance to attend this camp and create some enduring friendships with the fellow participants.
