January 8, 2011: I was searching on Google the greatest personalities in history. I am really disappointed that still many people do not know about our greatest Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj. Why sikh people are unable to spread the message of such a great religion founded by Guru Nanak Dev ji Maharaj? Religion which gives a message of equality of mankind and brotherhood. Thousands of great sikh men and women have been martyred. But Who knows what? Sikhs are found only in small number.
Christian missionaries spread the Christianity all over the world by telling the world about the one great sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
Do people know about the fifth Nanak Guru Arjan Dev Ji Maharaj’s martyrdom? Is the supreme sacrifice of Ninth Sikh Guru Teg Bahadur Ji remembered? Do they know about the four sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, youngest martyrs in the history? Sikhism is founded on the sacrifices of such greatest martyrs' history has ever produced but unfortunately people are not aware.
I don’t think there might be any lack of preachers, there is lack of people who put the religious beliefs in to their own practice. There is a quote, “Your thousand words cannot convince a single person but your single action can convince the thousand persons.”
Guru Nanak gave a message that attaches the person to One God. He rejected the false so called religious beliefs and deeds. Same is the message of all nine Gurus as successors of Guru Nanak.
Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj says in a hymn:
ਕਾਹੂ ਲੈ ਪਾਹਨ ਪੂਜ ਧਰਯੋ ਸਿਰ ਕਾਹੂ ਲੈ ਲਿੰਗ ਗਰੇ ਲਟਕਾਇਓ ॥
काहू लै पाहन पूज धरयो सिर काहू लै लिंग गरे लटकाइओ ॥
Someone worshipped stone and placed it on his head. Someone hung the phallus (lingam) from his neck.
ਕਾਹੂ ਲਖਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਅਵਾਚੀ ਦਿਸਾ ਮਹਿ ਕਾਹੂ ਪਛਾਹ ਕੋ ਸੀਸੁ ਨਿਵਾਇਓ ॥
काहू लखिओ हरि अवाची दिसा महि काहू पछाह को सीसु निवाइओ ॥
Someone visualized God in the South and someone bowed his head towards the West.
ਕੋਉ ਬੁਤਾਨ ਕੋ ਪੂਜਤ ਹੈ ਪਸੁ ਕੋਉ ਮ੍ਰਿਤਾਨ ਕੋ ਪੂਜਨ ਧਾਇਓ ॥
कोउ बुतान को पूजत है पसु कोउ म्रितान को पूजन धाइओ ॥
Some fool worships the idols and someone goes to worship the dead.
ਕੂਰ ਕ੍ਰਿਆ ਉਰਿਝਓ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਜਗ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਕੋ ਭੇਦੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ॥੧੦॥੩੦॥
कूर क्रिआ उरिझओ सभ ही जग स्री भगवान को भेदु न पाइओ ॥१०॥३०॥
The whole world is entangled in false rituals and has not known the secret of Lord-God 10.30.
The whole world is busy in such false performances without knowing the secret mystery of God.
Religion is being used as a source of prestige by so called religious scholars. The most important message that is revealed from God in the form of religion is always misunderstood. Lets not forget the supreme sacrifices of our tenth master (Guru) Gobind Singh Ji. Lets come together and tell the world about our Greatest Gurus' life and teachings.
