“Satgur Nanak Pargatia, Miti Dhundh Jag Chanan Hoya”
(When the True Guru Nanak appeared, the mist cleared and the world was filled with light.)
In a historic celebration of divine light and spiritual heritage, the Khalsa University and its allied Khalsa educational institutions, under the patronage of the Khalsa College Governing Council, Amritsar, organized a grand Nagar Kirtan to commemorate the 556th Birth Anniversary (Parkash Gurpurab) of Sahib Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
The sacred procession commenced from Khalsa College and culminated at Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib, Amritsar. Nearly 700 students from Khalsa University and over 30,000 students from various Khalsa educational institutions—accompanied by Principals, faculty members, and staff—participated with devotional fervour, transforming the city into a vibrant panorama of faith, unity, and devotion.
Extending his greetings on this sacred occasion, S. Satyajit Singh Majithia, Chancellor of Khalsa University and President of the Governing Council, through his special message, and S. Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, Pro-Chancellor and Honorary Secretary of the Council, in the presence of Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mehal Singh, conveyed heartfelt felicitations to the global community. They recalled that Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Guru of the Sikhs, emphasized that the propagation of spiritual truth should not remain confined to one place. Instead, through Udasian—his extensive journeys across East, West, North, and South—Guru Nanak Dev Ji engaged in profound dialogues with scholars, saints, and spiritual leaders, imparting to all the universal message of truth, humility, and divine unity.
S. Chhina further stated that Guru Nanak Dev Ji liberated humanity from ignorance, superstition, ritualism, and the chains of caste and social inequality, illuminating the eternal principles of “Kirat Karo, Naam Japo, and Vand Chhako” — (Earn honestly, meditate on the Divine Name, and share with others). He urged the congregation to walk the Guru’s path of social harmony, truth, and remembrance of the Divine Name.
Throughout the Nagar Kirtan, the students recited sacred hymns — “Kali Taran Gur Nanak Aaya”, “Satgur Nanak Pargatia, Miti Dhundh Jag Chanan Hoya”, and “Bole So Nihal, Panth Ki Jeet” — filling the air with the resonance of faith. The procession passed through Putlighar Chowk, Railway Station, Bhandari Bridge, and Hall Bazaar, before reaching the holy precincts of Sri Harmandir Sahib. Students also displayed traditional Gatka martial artistry en route, symbolizing the spirit of the Khalsa.
Upon the arrival of the Nagar Kirtan at the Sri Harmandir Sahib Plaza, Bhai Sarwan Singh, Ardasia of Sri Harmandir Sahib, offered Ardas (prayer). Thereafter, the Secretary to Sri Harmandir Sahib, S. Jaswinder Singh Jassi, along with Mukhis Iqbal Singh, Jaspal Singh Dhadde, Satnam Singh, Information Officer Amritpal Singh, and Jatinderpal Singh, extended a ceremonial welcome to S. Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mehal Singh, Registrar Dr. Khushwinder Kumar, Academic Dean Dr. Surinder Kaur, Dean Dr. R.K. Dhawan, Dean Dr. Kanwaljit Singh, Joint Secretary S. Gunbir Singh, S. Ajmer Singh Heer, S. Rajbir Singh, S. Parmjit Singh Ball, S. Lakhwinder Singh Dhillon, S. Gurpreet Singh Gill, and Principals of all participating Khalsa institutions, honouring them with Siropas (robes of honour).
Dr. Atam Singh Randhawa, Principal of Khalsa College, extended his greetings on the occasion, commending the students’ active participation in maintaining cleanliness and orderliness throughout the procession. He also appreciated the Police Administration for their exemplary management and arrangements during the Nagar Kirtan.
Among the distinguished participants were Council Members Smt. Raminder Kaur, S. Tajinderpal Sandhu, S. Bikramjit Singh Vadaich, S.
