Yuba City Children won first position at Kirtan Singing contest in San Jose

Yuba City kids win 1st and 2nd place in the Hemkunt Kirtan competition (devotional classical singing) held in San Jose Gurdwara on May 18th. Four groups (different age groups) from Yuba City competed in the Kirtan competition. These kids were trained by Professor Dalbir Singh from the Bay area.

Group 1 kids earned first place out of 14 groups from all over North Western USA.
Among the 1st group the kids were Ahdeesh Kaur, Harsimran Kaur, Harleen Kaur, Jasmine Kaur Dhillon and Sukhman S. Dhillon.

Winners have qualified for the participation at International competition to be held at Washington DC in August, 2013

The Yuba-Sutter Fairgrounds will host more than 10 000 people this Sunday, May 26th during the 19th Annual International Punjabi American Festival. Sponsored by the Punjabi American Heritage Society of Yuba City, the festival is a way for those with Punjabi roots to celebrate and share their culture with fellow Americans.

Time: 11:00 am to Sun Set, Location: Yuba-Sutter Fairgrounds, Yuba City

The Punjabi American Heritage Society was founded in 1993 with the purpose of creating a better understanding amongst different people living in this area and to educate children about their ancestral roots. In the past eighteen years, many events have been organized to improve awareness and to promote cross cultural friendship in the community.

 


At this year's festival, hundreds of local performing artists, including students from California schools, colleges and universities, will perform traditional Punjabi dances such as Bhangra and other ethnic dances. In addition, vendors will be on hand providing many Punjabi and South Asian delicacies.

This year's festival will highlight performances by internationally acclaimed Punjabi Actors and singers: Jat and Juliet Movie Hero and Heroine : Diljit S Dosanj andNeeruBajwa, melodious singerFeroz Khan, folk singersBabbuGurpal and RupinderHanda

The Punjabi American Heritage Society will recognize five local high school seniors and award scholarships for their achievements.

The Honorable Assemblyman Dan Logue will be honored for introducing Resolution ACR20 in the California State Assembly.
