On Tuesday, March 8, the world will honorInternational Women’s Day. To celebrate, all of us here at SikhNet invite you to watch our inspiring original animated short filmKAUR with the young girls and boys in your life.
KAUR focuses on a young Sikh girl, Saibhang Kaur, who loves science. Yet when she gets bullied at school, Saibhang thinks about giving up on her dreams. Saibhang Kaur’s grandmother tells her the story of Mai Bhago - the true Sikh woman warrior who played a critical role in stopping brutal Mughal oppression against the Sikhs in 17th century India. After hearing the story of Mai Bhago, Saibhang Kaur finds her own courage.
500 years ago, Guru Nanak stood up to the wrongful treatment of women in his society, yet the lessons of respecting and empowering women must be re-taught, generation by generation. When children understand these lessons early in life, they can embody them and help create a fairer and more just and equitable society.
International Women’s Day is a global celebration of women’s issues and history, which shines a light on the important fight for women’s empowerment. We are grateful to share this fun, touching, and inspirational original film - KAUR - for you to enjoy and discuss with the young people you love most in your life.
