The U.S. Consulate General Karachi hosted an inter-faith conference that brought a Muslim Mufti, a Catholic Bishop, and the Sikh Representative founder of the Pakistan Sikh Council, Sardar Ramesh Singh, Michael Javid former MPA Sindh with over 100 male and female students of different faiths.
Kevin Murakami, Public Affairs Officer of the U.S. Consulate General Karachi, delivered opening remarks at the Conference.
"The United States does not put more value on one religion over another. Rather, the United States values the freedom to worship whatever faith one chooses. We are so proud to support this conference because we believe people of all faiths can achieve so much more by working together in an atmosphere of religious tolerance and harmony," he said.
Throughout the day-long conference, the panelists discussed the status of minority religions in Pakistan and debated how to best correct misperceptions often held by some faiths against others.
The panelists recommended establishing a special committee to address challenges related to inter-faith relations, such as forced conversions, honor killings, and alleged kidnappings.
Students in the audience actively participated through question and answer sessions and raised their own concerns through sharing personal stories — at Sheraton Hotel Karachi.
